The Shakedown Team is responsible for searching all areas of the detention facility for any type of contraband such as weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and nuisance contraband which is any item not provided or approved by the detention facility staff. Searches are conducted at undisclosed times and locations several times throughout the month. Team members can also be called upon to conduct searches for known missing items.
There is an average of 20 Shakedown Team members who perform this function as a collateral duty. Any detention facility deputy can become a member once they have completed their initial Field Training Officer program. Team members are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and are required to attend a minimum of 4 shakedowns per year.
